These are the “simple to describe” but “hard to deliver” keys to success that I use to grow your business.
I led OZ Communications from a startup with growing pains into a profitable company acquired by Nokia.
Gross margins from 44% to 68% in 4 years.
Revenue growth averaging 71% annually.
I recruited and built a world class exec team from Cisco, AT&T Wireless and OZ Communications, raised capital, refinanced debt, and set a new focus for product.
From the very first American Idol text voting enabled show, I led the technology team which developed and operated the highest capacity mobile messaging platform of its time.
When AT&T Wireless left the TDMA camp and moved to GSM, I led the technology introduction to GPRS data services. Then when technology advanced again, I led the UMTS data services technology introduction, a contractual obligation of the $9.8B investment by NTT DoCoMo.
No one wins by hearing what they want to hear. Fostering frank constructive input is key to success.
I am not a fan of deep hierarchies. I think flat organizations with unified objectives are more effective than “responsibility” based departments.
Things worth doing take time and effort. “Overnight successes” are usually the result of ten years of hard but mostly invisible work.
Metrics and key correlations of success are essential. Everything doesn’t need to be measured, but if you find a bellwether of success or failure you need to be vigilant of that metric.
